A get together was organised by (a wonderful ‘tog) Allan for a group of us to climb the Story Bridge, and this is the best bit – with our cameras!

The wait seemed to go forever, but finally the day arrived.

Our guides are ‘togs as well, so that was great in that they knew and understood our needs and provided everything and gave us plenty of time to take the photos.

Our Guides on the Story Bridge Climb Photo Walk

We got kitted up and safety inspected then we were off.

Under the Bridge

You have to walk under the bridge to get to the part where one starts climbing.

We were told about how many stairs we would be climbing and they were not kidding! There were a lot of steps!

The start of the stairs

Once you climb this part, you are then greeted with quite a long walk to get to the next set of stairs.

The walk to the next set of steps

Once at the end of this walk, the climb up and up and up and up and up (did I mention we go up) begins.

The start of the long climb up

Just about half way up the bridge

Half way up

This image shows Allan (who organised the get together) half way up the climb heading towards the first top part of the bridge and we are all on the side of the bridge facing New Farm.

On the way up

We walked to the top of this section and had the opportunity to take some great photos.

At the top of section one

Whilst here I started to notice that the sun was setting which meant that by the time we would be making our way across we would get some great sun set shots as well as the light on the river changing.

The sun is starting to set

If you’re wondering – it is quite safe to be here. Not for one second did I feel that I was going to fall to my death and I’m cautious when it comes to the old height thing!

Tethered to the safety line

Time to head down the stairs and make our way across to the other side. There are a lot of stairs!

The Steps

On the way to the other side, I noticed how wonderful the light looked on the river – especially as the City Cat came through

City Cat from the top of the Bridge

Looking over the edge also provided one with a view of the walk way that runs parallel with the bridge that both cyclists and pedestrians use.

Cyclist crossing the bridge

The lights are turned on – bring on the orange glow!! Next time I see the Bridge go ‘blue’ I’m going to come up here and take some photos of that!!

The Lights are on!!

The above image is of where we are heading and the one below is where we have come from.

Where we've come from

Ok Ok Ok – I know – it’s the obligatory photo of the city from the top of the Bridge. I took a couple of these and I won’t bore you with 10 million of what essentially is the same thing

The obligatory City photo from the top of the Bridge

On the way back from the top of the bridge, we went down the side facing the city and stopped on the way for the group photo.

It’s quite dark by this stage and the light wasn’t that great here so I was really pushing the iso and as a group we all took a photo of Simon taking a photo of us.

Taking a photo of Simon taking a photo of us

On the way back up the Bridge heading back towards the first section of the bridge, we stopped to admire the view and I turned around to see Jessie trying his hand (and camera) at this and thought I would give it a go as well. I had fun doing this. This is hand held (cannot bring a tripod up) and the shutter speed is 1/10 – all that hand held macro stuff really pays off!!

Rushing Home

Time for us to head back now

Heading back to base

Just a few stairs left

Then it was all over red rover!

What a wonderful way to spend a few hours.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to do this then it’s something that needs to go on the ‘to do’ list.

I had a ball Tammy and Ben and wish to thank you heaps for letting me be a part of this journey.

I first took Tammy’s photo when she was 26 weeks pregnant, then we had another session with a few weeks left before she gave birth to the beautiful baby girl below.

Enjoy Ben and Tam.

Someone loves his little princess!

The headband being modelled by Lucca was made by Tammy herself.

I have started a project – which I’m thoroughly enjoying – of taking a macro photo every day.

The goal with this is to challenge how one sees the everyday items around our place or garden.

To check out the photos and see if you can work out what they are (ok – some are pretty obvious) go to http://www.themacroqueen.com

My other blog which I quite enjoy working on is called Macro 101

It’s where one goes to get ideas or to work out how to take a macro photo.

That address is http://www.macro101.com

Finally, ever wonder how the bump in Tammy turned out?

She’s a beautiful little girl and I have the privilege of taking her photo and some lovely family ones of mum and dad with their bundle of joy.

Take care everyone and

Happy snapping

I just love food photography.

It’s a wonderful way to express creativity and when asked to photograph it, my heart skips a beat or two out of sheer excitement!

Food, for me, isn’t just about taste – it’s about presentation as well.

So, to be entrusted with the opportunity to present to others what good quality food will be presented to them on a plate is indeed a privilege.

Armed with my trusty 100mm f/2.8 macro lens I eagerly wonder what gastronomical delights the chef will cook and plate up.

The above is a wonderful Chicken Schnitzel with potato and salad.

My favourite – Rump steak with mushroom sauce, chips and salad.

Some surf and turf. The prawns were lightly seasoned with some garlic.

The Brewhouse can be found at 601 Stanley Street Woolloongabba – right opposite the Mater Hospital, and is now under new management.

The plans that are being made for the future of the Brewhouse are quite exciting.

Stay tuned to this spot for the refurbishment photo session.

After photographing a beautiful morning’s sunrise and some macros, we headed off to the abandoned house.

I was pretty excited by this thought as there is a lot of opportunity to capture texture in the old wood and the clouds were coming over so again, some dramatic skies will be included along with nice soft light.

Whilst wondering around taking photos, I noticed a lot of fresh cow pats on the ground and wondered where the heck the cows were.

It wasn’t long till they started wondering down the hill to come and check out what we were doing.

They weren’t really interested in us and what we were doing – but I did start to wonder where they get their water from. The next thing I knew, the cows came wondering past us and heading towards the direction of the gate. It wasn’t until that point that I noticed the water ‘container’.

From here we went into separate groups and the group I was with went exploring where we found more wonderful paddocks of Sunflowers and some wonderful old train Stations. I’ll continue on with Part III soon.

The alarm went off at 1am – and I was excited!

There was a big day planned photography wise and I was looking forward to what may come.

I left at 2am and arrived at my destination at just after 4am.

What a wonderful sunrise to greet not only myself but a few other photog’s who all gathered together for the meetup.

After taking photos of the sun rising, I couldn’t help myself and I had to take some macros.

Thankfully the bees were too busy to get to the nectar to worry about a photographer and there were millions of flies so I had to take a macro of one. Sprinkled in between the files and bees were lady beetles and green ants.

Whilst in the paddock I also took some flower shots which are a little different to the norm.

From here, the group went to an abandoned house. In the next post I’ll continue on with the journey.

Please note – the images are for sale on http://www.michellelegg.com and are copyright so please respect the artist and do not illegally download.
